School operates Monday - Thursday, 9am - 3pm. We hold two classes per day, 9-11am and 1-3pm, classes rotate as either M/W or T/Th, and students enroll in four classes per quarter. Students are encouraged to collaborate with their teachers to curate the coursework based on their strengths and interests.

Heron School provides ample break time for students to reset as well as deep dive into their preferred interests. Fall break is a week-long break midway through the first quarter, winter break divides Q2 and Q3, and spring break is a two week break midway through Q3. There is also a two week break for Thanksgiving and a two week winter holiday break.

Summer quarter (Q4) is an intensive in which students take one class over a two-week period (40 hours of instruction time). Faculty and students co-develop the courses to be offered in June based on students’ interests and faculty expertise.
